ABSTRACT
Ectopic pregnancy remains a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality. It is documented that this condition is related to previous pelvic infections, methods of assisted fertilization, anatomical abnormalities and other factors such as use of intrauterine device, previous surgeries, and so on.
Objective: To identify risk factors for ectopic pregnancy in patients treated at the Hospital of Gynecology and Obstetrics Maternal and Child Health Institute of the State of Mexico from 2005 to 2007.
Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective reviews the expedients of women with ectopic pregnancy who were admitted from 2005 to 2007, in order to identify the most common risk factors associated with the development of this pathology. We used descriptive and inferential statistics, using chi-square.
Results: 54 records were analyzed. The average age of patients was 28.26 years. The most common risk factor was salpingitis, with 21 cases, 38.8% (p › 0.09). The most common location was the tubal with 35 cases (64.8%). The treatment was surgical in 100% of patients.
Conclusions: The frequency of ectopic pregnancy is 0.19%, the most common risk factor was salpingitis. There were no complications or mortality.
