ABSTRACT
The oocyte is the fundamental and controlling cell of the embryo development, consequently it is matter of intense research. The oocyte has been used in diverse micromanipulation techniques that try to work as therapies to improve the embryo development. Recently the appearing of a new micromanipulation technique, the meiotic spindle transfer in primates, promises to revitalize the importance of oocyte, if it is possible to develop in humans. In this review are briefly analyzed the micromanipulation techniques previously proposed as oocyte “therapies” and the clinical potential of meiotic spindle transfer.
