ABSTRACT
Mucormycosis is an acute mycoses caused by an opportunistic fungus belonging to the Mucoral order. There is a predisposition to it in patients with diabetes mellitus. The case of a 62-year-old female, uncontrolled diabetic, is reported, who presented with symptoms of ketoacidosis with rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis with cutaneous involvement in the face and the palatal region. The mycological cultures resulted in
Rhizopus sp. However, because of the rapid development of the disease and despite having initiated the appropriate therapy, no metabolic control was achieved and the patient died of multiple organ failure and septic shock.
