Manuscript Review Policies

1. Manuscript Submission. The author submits the article to the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Science Journal via the Editor web platform at the following link: https://revision.medigraphic.com/RevisionCms

2. Editorial Office Review. The journal verifies the article's structure and layout according to the journal's author guidelines to ensure it includes the required sections and style. The article's quality is not assessed at this stage. (One to two weeks).

3. Review by the Responsible Editor. The Responsible Editor checks that the article is appropriate for the journal and sufficiently original and interesting. If it is not, the article may be rejected without further review. (One week).

4. Invitation to Reviewers. The Responsible Editor sends an invitation to review the article to the person they believe would be the most suitable reviewer. (One week).

5. Double-Blind Review. In the peer review process, articles undergo double-blind peer review, and the result is incontrovertible. (One week).

6. Response to the invitation. The reviewer considers the invitation based on their own experience, conflicts of interest, and availability. They then accept or decline. If declining, they may also suggest alternative reviewers. (Two weeks).

7. The review is conducted. The reviewer sets aside time to read the article several times; the first reading is used to form an initial impression of the work. If significant problems are found at this stage, the reviewer may reject the article. Otherwise, they must develop a detailed, point-by-point review and submit it to the journal with a recommendation to reject or accept the article.
The evaluation criteria that the reviewer must apply include:

A) originality and contribution to knowledge;
B) logical coherence and structure of the article;
C) theoretical and methodological rigor;
D) currency and relevance of the bibliographic references; E) Clarity of writing; and
F) Compliance with applicable ethical standards. The journal provides reviewers with a structured feedback form.

It may accept the manuscript for publication without corrections or with the indication of minor or major corrections; the author must review the article and resubmit the corrected manuscript for reconsideration. (Two to three weeks).

8. The journal evaluates the reviews. The responsible Editor considers the reviews before making an overall decision. If there are any doubts, they may invite an additional reviewer before making a decision. (One week).

9. The decision is communicated. The editorial assistant sends an email to the author with the decision, including the reviewer's relevant comments. The comments are anonymous. (Two weeks).

10. Next steps.

– If accepted, the article is scheduled for publication.
– If the article is rejected or returned for major or minor revision, the Editor in Charge must include constructive feedback from the reviewers to help the author improve the article. At this point, the reviewers should also receive a thank-you letter via email.
– If the article was submitted for major revisions, the reviewer must receive and approve the revised version. The editorial assistant will monitor the authors' responses, as there is a possibility that the author may have chosen not to make the changes. When only minor changes were requested, the Editor in Charge will conduct a follow-up review.
– In the final stage before publication, the Editor in Charge will review the final proofs and the proofreaders' suggestions. If there are corrections requiring authorization, these will be sent to the author, who must make them within 72 hours to avoid delaying publication of the issue. If they are minor corrections, the Editor in Charge may make them.

Transparency of the Review Process and Best Practices

To ensure consistency and transparency in the peer review process, the journal Cardiovascular and Metabolic Science provides reviewers with a structured review form that guides the evaluation point by point.
The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines for reviewers: https://publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines
