Medicación sistémica en endodoncia

RESUMEN
Introducción: Las complicaciones endodónticas, tales como la presencia de inflamación,
dolor, infección y dificultades anestésicas, requieren de una racionalización en la terapéutica
medicamentosas sistémica.
Objetivo: Describir las indicaciones, contraindicaciones y efectos colaterales en la
prescripción y uso de medicamentos en las principales situaciones clínicas antes, durante y
después del tratamiento de conductos radiculares.
Métodos: Se realizó una compilación de referencias bibliográficas a partir de la búsqueda
en PubMed, motor de búsqueda de libre acceso a MEDLINE. Se emplearon las siguientes
palabras clave: medicación sistémica endodóntica; pulpitis irreversible sintomática;
periodontitis apical sintomática; absceso apical agudo. Se recuperaron 274 artículos, de ellos 68 se consideraron pertinente, ya que contemplaban la resolución de los problemas de origen
endodóntico.
Conclusiones: La elaboración de protocolos sobre los fundamentos de la investigación
científica y basados en evidencias clínicas permite la realización del tratamiento de
conductos radiculares con seguridad y bienestar para el paciente, aumentando así el índice
de éxito clínico.
