FRAGMENTO

Como parte del mejoramiento y en aras del perfeccionamiento técnico y académico, me dirigí a inicios de este año 2020 a España, esto con el objetivo de visitar centros hospitalarios de renombre mundial. La experiencia estaba resultando magnífica, me recibieron de una manera inmejorable y sin ningún reparo en sus enseñanzas. Empezaba el año y recuerdo que comentábamos en los pasillos de los quirófanos la noticia, en aquel momento lejana, de una “gripe china”. Leíamos y oíamos comentarios de todo tipo, desde las historias de conspiraciones, hasta editoriales de revistas de alto impacto de autoridades médicas, algunos inclusive editores en jefe de literatura médica universal4. Todos teníamos nuestras opiniones, se discutían proyecciones, algunas llamadas exageradas, otras que menospreciaban a un virus que por apariencia microscópica se le llamaba coronavirus, pero que, según los datos disponibles de la época, tenía una baja mortalidad o hablando de una forma mas coloquial “mataba más un simple resfrío común”. Nadie o muy pocos esperaban lo que ocurriría en menos de 2 meses, no se tomaron en cuenta los datos que luego tendríamos a nuestra disposición, como la transmisibilidad y virulencia.
