El nuevo brote de la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), causada por el SARSCoV- 2, comenzó en la ciudad de Wuhan, China, en diciembre de 2019 y rápidamente se extendió a varios países, de ahí que la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) declaró una pandemia en marzo de 2020. Al igual que otras infecciones virales, se ha considerado que la ruta principal de transmisión es través de gotitas respiratorias y aerosoles que se pueden expulsar al toser, estornudar o hablar.
