Aplicaciones terapéuticas de la bromelina en el sistema gastrointestinal en humanos: una revisión de alcance

RESUMEN

Introducción: La bromelina se ha utilizado con fines terapéuticos desde el siglo XIX. Se han reportado distintos estudios tanto de experimentación in vitro como en animales e incluso en humanos que mostraron resultados favorables para el sistema gastrointestinal. Objetivo: Desarrollar una revisión de las investigaciones realizadas en las dos últimas décadas que refieren al uso terapéutico gastrointestinal de la bromelina en humanos, animales y experimentación in vitro. Material y Método: Se realizó una revisión exploratoria (scoping review) con base en los requerimientos de PRISMA para este tipo de revisiones. La búsqueda documental se llevó a cabo en los estudios publicados en las bases de datos PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Google Académico, Springer Link y Wiley. Resultados: Se encontraron trece artículos, cinco ensayos clínicos, cuatro en animales y cuatro in vitro. Los resultados de los efectos terapéuticos de la bromelina fueron significativos por sus propiedades como analgésico, antiácido, anticancerígeno, antiinflamatorio, inmunomodulador, prebiótico, probiótico, en la disminución del estreñimiento y en el vaciamiento gástrico. Conclusiones: La bromelina tiene efectos benéficos a nivel gastrointestinal en humanos, solo se requiere profundizar en las evidencias para dar continuidad a las investigaciones de los últimos dos decenios.
