FRAGMENTO

El dolor en el paciente pediátrico ha sido revalorado en los últimos 15 años, los mitos relacionados con la falta de percepción dolorosa, han sido sustituidos por investigaciones sobre el desarrollo estructural y funcional del sistema nervioso en el niño. Sin embargo, aún no se ha establecido una correlación adecuada entre los nuevos conceptos sobre la percepción dolorosa; y la adecuada evaluación, diagnóstico y manejo del problema. Un concepto que ha ayudado a enlazar estos aspectos, ha sido la propuesta de un abordaje de tratamiento multimodal, que permita utilizar las ventajas de varios tipos de manejo para optimizar resultados. A continuación se brindarán aspectos teóricos que nos darán una perspectiva general del arsenal de técnicas y fármacos que pueden ser utilizados.
