Cefalea por abuso de medicamentos

RESUMEN

La cefalea por abuso de medicación es una cefalea secundaria que se desarrolla dentro un comportamiento de consumo excesivo e inadecuado de medicación analgésica para tratar crisis de cefaleas primarias, como la migraña y la cefalea tensional. Esto provoca una gran morbilidad y cronificación de la cefalea de base con incremento de las crisis de dolor, que aumentan aún más el consumo de analgésicos, provocando un espiral de cada vez mayor consumo y frustración tanto para el paciente como para el clínico tratante. La supresión inicial y el control posterior de la medicación analgésica, la inclusión y adherencia de un tratamiento preventivo para la cefalea primaria, y la educación constante del paciente, constituyen los pilares de tratamiento.
