Síndrome de embolia grasa: ¿una complicación rara o subdiagnosticada?

La embolia grasa (EG) es una complicación
que se define como la presencia de glóbulos
de grasa dentro de la circulación sanguínea,
extremadamente común en los pacientes con
trauma de huesos largos o fracturas de huesos
pélvicos; aunque también se describen causas no
traumáticas del mismo, principalmente cirugías
estéticas. La embolia grasa puede aparecer con
mínimos efectos fisiológicos, el síndrome de embolia
grasa (SEG) es una consecuencia potencialmente
fatal para el paciente ya que los émbolos
grasos causan daño endotelial y obstrucción de
la circulación pulmonar, cerebral renal, cardíaca,
etcétera.
