INTRODUCCIÓN

Uno de los errores conceptuales más frecuentes en la práctica clínica es asumir que la fragilidad y el envejecimiento son fenómenos equivalentes. Aunque su prevalencia aumenta con la edad, corresponden a entidades biológicas distintas. La fragilidad no es sinónimo de vejez, comorbilidad o discapacidad, sino un estado biológico y clínico de vulnerabilidad caracterizado por disminución de la reserva fisiológica y menor capacidad de adaptación frente al estrés.
