Aféresis terapéutica

Principios generales
La aféresis terapéutica (AT) se define como la
práctica médica que permite la extracción de
sangre del paciente con el fin de separarla en sus
distintos componentes, tanto plasmáticos como
celulares. De manera selectiva, se retiene un componente
para reemplazarlo o no por un sustituto, y
luego reinfundirlo junto a los hemocomponentes
no seleccionados.
Los principales objetivos de la AT son:
1. Eliminar un elemento patológico celular y/o
humoral de la sangre de un paciente.
2. Reemplazar una sustancia(s) deficiente(s),
típicamente en el contexto de la eliminación
de un constituyente patológico.
3. Modular la funcionalidad celular (por ejemplo,
mediante manipulaciones extracorpóreas
adicionales y el retorno de esos elementos
celulares, como las realizadas con el uso de
exposición a luz ultravioleta en fotoféresis).
