RESUMEN

En esta revisión se exponen los avances en el conocimiento de la fístula anal. Incluye aspectos históricos, incidencia, etiología y patogénesis, cuadro clínico, exploración proctológica, métodos auxiliares de diagnóstico, clasificación y modalidades terapéuticas como la fistulectomía, fistulotomía, fistulectomía con reparación primaria de esfínteres, colgajo de avance endorrectal, sedal, setón de corte, setón de drenaje, fibrina y tapón de colágeno biodegradable.
