Las caídas son un problema para los ancianos que causan daño en el 30% de las personas que las sufren. El daño que ocasionan puede ser disminución de la funcionalidad por fracturas o lesiones relacionadas con la caída, secuelas psicológicas como el síndrome postcaídas y esto condiciona el uso de restricciones físicas que tiene efectos negativos en la funcionalidad y causa aislamiento social.
