En 2002 se conmemoró el 50 aniversario de la valoración Apgar, durante el 27 Congreso Anual de Anestesiólogos, reunión conjunta de la Sociedad Internacional de Investigación en Anestesia y del Colegio Internacional de Anestesiólogos.
Esta valoración del recién nacido, ha sido extraordinariamente útil para anestesiólogos, ginecoobstetras, perinatólogos, pediatras y neonatólogos. Esta semblanza es un homenaje a una gran mujer que venció muchos obstáculos para realizarse como ser humano y trascender en su profesión, la Dra. Virginia Apgar. En todo el mundo
