RESUMEN

Durante mucho tiempo se pensó que el sistema renina-angiotensina regulaba únicamente la presión arterial sistémica y el balance de electrolitos. En años recientes se ha demostrado su papel en la regulación de otros procesos a través de su efector, la angiotensina II, incluyendo patologías fibrosantes en corazón y riñón. En esta revisión presentamos evidencias novedosas de la participación del sistema renina-angiotensina en procesos fibrosantes que también podrían desempeñar un papel importante en la fibrosis pulmonar idiopática.
