RESUMEN

El dolor es un síntoma que se asocia a las alteraciones del sistema musculoesquelético y que frecuentemente debe ser tratado por el ortopedista. El objetivo de esta revisión fue hacer un análisis de los mecanismos que participan en la sensación dolorosa y de las variedades terapéuticas que se han aplicado en ortopedia para el control del dolor. Debido a que se sabe que la respuesta a la analgesia no es igual en todos los pacientes, se evaluaron aspectos que influyen en la sensación dolorosa como son el efecto placebo, el género y los factores genómicos. Entre las variedades terapéuticas se analizaron la medicamentosa, tomando los fármacos, presentaciones farmacéuticas y forma de administración que más frecuentemente se utilizan en ortopedia y la acupuntura que ha demostrado efectividad en casos especiales.
