Introducción

En el primer apartado de esta revisión histórica detallada de todos los aspectos clínicamente relevantes relacionados al polietileno iniciamos con el recuento de datos que se remontan a su descubrimiento y desarrollo. Posteriormente analizamos los aspectos técnicos de su fabricación, clasificación y los diferentes métodos de producción. En este último apartado iniciaremos presentando los detalles relevantes relacionados con la composición química, características mecánicas, tribología, verificación del desgaste y disponibilidad, para finalmente enfocarnos en los últimos avances y sus tendencias.
