RESUMEN

Antecedentes: Ibuprofeno es un antiinflamatorio no esteroideo que se utiliza sobre todo en fiebre en niños y adultos, con poca experiencia en menores de 2 años.
Objetivo: Comparar el efecto sobre la fiebre de ibuprofeno contra el de paracetamol en lactantes menores de 2 años de edad.
Material y métodos: Es un estudio realizado en el Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea González de la Secretaría de Salud, experimental, no ciego, prospectivo, longitudinal y comparativo en menores de dos años de edad con fiebre. El grupo A con 25 pacientes recibió paracetamol y el grupo B ibuprofeno a dosis de 10mg/kg de peso, en una sola dosis. Se comparó la curva térmica durante 6 horas con intervalos de 30 minutos, y también nitrógeno de urea y creatinina al inicio y final del periodo.
Resultados: Temperatura inicial en grupo A 38.7±0.4 y grupo B 38.7±0.3; al final 37.4± para el grupo A y 36.4± para el B. El descenso de la fiebre fue más rápido y duradero con ibuprofeno. En azoados no hubo diferencia al inicio y final de las 6 horas.
Conclusiones: Ibuprofeno puede utilizarse en menores de 2 años para control de la fiebre; su efecto es más rápido y prolongado que el del paracetamol.
