Probablemente esta afirmación contundente sea la primera documentación de las lesiones del hombro (específicamente la luxación glenohumeral) datada alrededor de los años 450 a 350 a.C. y atribuida a Hipócrates de Cos, llamado «el grande», aunque también se ha identificado el aparente tratamiento de una luxación glenohumeral en un papiro egipcio alrededor del año 3000 a.C. que describe una serie de lesiones en el trabajo.
