La amenaza del virus Ébola como ejemplo del desafío de las nuevas enfermedades infecciosas

FRAGMENTO

Al iniciar un milenio más de su historia, el hombre enfrenta una extraña paradoja: todo indica que fue en África donde se dieron los cambios biológicos que tuvieron mayor trascendencia en su evolución filogenética para llegar a ser el Homo sapiens, y es en este Continente donde han surgido las mayores amenazas biológicas que ponen en peligro la existencia de la humanidad, como el virus SIDA y otros desafíos confinados a sus límites marítimos, como la fiebre hemorrágica por el virus Ébola o la meningitis del Este del Nilo; que pocos meses atrás causó las primeras muertes en la ciudad de Nueva York.
