Nistagmo alternante

En los niños con nistagmo 9 a 33% pueden tener un cambio en la intensidad y dirección de sus movimientos, lo que se ha descrito como nistagmo periódico alternante adquirido, que se observa con un nistagmo en posición primaria, batiéndose en una dirección durante uno o dos minutos, seguido de un lapso de quietud para luego reaparecer en la dirección opuesta. Esta variación se ha asociado a alteraciones del cerebelo del nódulo o de la úvula en la ataxia de Friedreich, el albinismo oculocutáneo, el trauma craneal, las malformaciones de Chiari, las lesiones tumorales cerebelares, la isquemia, degeneración cerebelar y la esclerosis múltiple.
