Manejo del nódulo tiroideo

RESUMEN

Los nódulos tiroideos son comunes. El objetivo principal de investigar un nódulo tiroideo es excluir la posibilidad de malignidad. Se debe realizar una acuciosa historia clínica y examen físico, concentrándose en historia familiar de cáncer así como las características de la glándula. El US y la citología por BAAF son piedras angulares en el manejo del nódulo ya que nos permiten determinar el riesgo de malignidad. Estudios como el TAC o MRI pueden ser necesarios en algunos casos para evaluar la extensión de la patología. Basándonos en los resultados de la citología sabremos el paso a seguir en el manejo del paciente. Cirugía seguido de ablación con radio yodo son los pilares en el tratamiento de los carcinomas diferenciados de tiroides.
