Salvar la vida puede lograrse y ha sido el objetivo del quehacer médico a lo largo de la historia. Las herramientas científicas y tecnológicas han permitido lograrlo en gran número de pacientes; desgraciadamente, al mismo tiempo nos ha sido cada vez más difícil enfrentar la muerte como el momento último, ineluctable de la vida.
