Para la víctima del trauma, el tiempo representa su peor «enemigo». Desafortunadamente, y pese al advenimiento de los protocolos de atención prehospitalaria, los intervalos de tiempo entre la lesión primaria y la intervención de reanimación quirúrgica continúan siendo los principales contribuyentes de la elevada mortalidad asociada al trauma en la epidemiología médica moderna.
