La higiene de las manos es una medida tan simple como difícil de lograr que se realice en la vida diaria. Parecieran no importar el antiguo precepto del médico: “salvar vidas”.
A partir del decenio de 1980-1990, la higiene de las manos se convirtió en un tema de investigación y siempre se ha reconocido el poco apego a esta medida en los hospitales. Se estima que es menor a 50%, aunque es bien conocido su papel en la prevención de infecciones nosocomiales. Desde entonces y hasta ahora parece haber una enorme discrepancia entre la teoría y la práctica.
