RESUMEN

Nuevos reportes confirman la conexión periodontal-sistémica y el esquema de recomendaciones clínicas. La Academia Americana de Periodontología (AAP), en colaboración con la Federación Europea de Periodontología (EFP), acaba de publicar una serie de informes del Consenso, que analizan la evidencia científica que vincula a las enfermedades periodontales, específicamente la periodontitis, a otras enfermedades sistémicas, como la diabetes, la enfermedad cardiovascular y los resultados adversos del embarazo. Los informes del Consenso, que aparecen tanto en la Journal of Periodontology como en la Journal of Clinical Periodontology, donde también esbozan las recomendaciones clínicas para los odontólogos, para usarlo en el tratamiento de sus pacientes de riesgo o que presentan ciertas condiciones médicas. Aquí les presentamos los reportes y el manifiesto que nos ha enviado la AAP y EFP.
