RESUMEN

Nuevos reportes confirman la conexión periodontal-sistémica y el esquema; recomendaciones clínicas.
La Academia Americana de Periodontología (AAP), en colaboración con la Federación Europea de Periodontología (EFP), acaba de publicar una serie de informes de consensos que analizan la evidencia científica y vinculan a las enfermedades periodontales, específicamente la periodontitis, con otras enfermedades sistémicas como la diabetes, la enfermedad cardiovascular y los resultados adversos del embarazo. Los informes de consenso, que aparecen tanto en el Journal of Periodontology y el Journal of Clinical Periodontology, también esbozan las recomendaciones clínicas para los odontólogos en el tratamiento de sus pacientes de riesgo, o que presentan ciertas condiciones médicas. Aquí les presentamos los reportes y el manifiesto que nos han enviado la AAP y la EFP.
