Hemos leído el interesante artículo de Velázquez y colaboradores1 que describe los principales factores maternos involucrados en el bajo peso al nacer (BPN), tema que constituye un grave problema de salud materno infantil por sus implicaciones clínicas y sociales. Más de 20 millones de recién nacidos son de BPN, lo que representa 15,5 % de todos los nacimientos en el mundo.
