Estenosis vascular renal.Perspectivas actuales en su diagnóstico y tratamiento

El interés en la terapia de la estenosis arterial renal (EAR) ha ganado adeptos en los últimos años, esto debido en gran parte a los datos demostrados de seguridad y eficacia de métodos endovasculares, incluyendo la angioplastia con stent: Aunque si bien la EAR puede permanecer asintomática, hay un número de severas consecuencias cuando la enfermedad es no reconocida (Cuadro I). Estas consecuencias incluyen: 1) Hipertensión acelerada, insuficiencia renal progresiva culminando en falla renal irreversible terminando el paciente a terapia dialítica, frecuentes cuadros de flash pulmonar, así como cuadros de angina inestable. La indicación de una revascularización para mejorar el control de la hipertensión y reducir con esto sus consecuencias (Edema pulmonar inestabilización coronaria etc.). Es indicativa, la preservación de la función renal permanece dudosa y aun controversial.
