Pancreatitis autoinmune

RESUMEN

La pancreatitis autoinmune (PAI) es considerada una forma especial de pancreatitis crónica que se caracteriza por ser un proceso inflamatorio sistémico que no solo afecta al páncreas si no también a otros órganos. Se produce principalmente en hombres y se describió por primera vez en la población asiática. Su diagnóstico es importante ya que la pancreatitis autoinmune puede imitar el cáncer de páncreas y su dificultad diagnóstica hace que pacientes sean operados innecesariamente y no se recurra al tratamiento médico inicial. El estándar de oro para el diagnóstico diferencial de ambas entidades es el examen histológico de la lesión. Por ello el objetivo de la presente revisión es hablar acerca de las manifestaciones clínicas más frecuentes de la PAI, métodos de imagen y criterios diagnósticos con la finalidad que un mejor conocimiento acerca del tema contribuya a lograr una mejor conducta diagnóstica y terapéutica más adecuada para los pacientes.
