Los animales de compañía (aquellos que han sido domesticados con el propósito de brindar compañía o disfrute del poseedor), han desempeñado un papel preponderante en la vida del ser humano a través de la historia, porque ejercen un efecto beneficioso en la prevención y recuperación de la salud física y mental de las personas con quienes conviven o se vinculan.
