RESUMEN

Para evaluar la importancia del drenaje articular postoperatorio en pacientes a quienes se les efectúa liberación artroscópica del retináculo lateral se realizó un estudio prospectivo en 61 pacientes con síndrome de hiperpresión patelar lateral. En un grupo de 30 pacientes se colocó drenaje articular postoperatorio y en otro grupo de 31 pacientes no se les colocó drenaje. La técnica utilizada fue la reportada por Metcalf; en ningún paciente se intentó coagular la arteria genicular. Se concluye que la colocación del drenaje articular postoperatorio no es indispensable, ya que en el seguimiento a 6 meses no se observó diferencia significativa en la recuperación final entre los dos grupos (P › 0.001).
