RESUMEN
La enfermedad por el virus del Ébola (EVE) es el prototipo de las fiebres hemorrágicas; tiene gran importancia dentro de la salud pública ya que representa una entidad que se desarrolla como una enfermedad grave, con alta tasa de fatalidad. En los humanos infectados se presenta usualmente de modo inicial con síntomas generales (como fiebre, vómito y diarrea severa), y en menos de la mitad, síntomas hemorrágicos visibles. El brote actual es el más grande que se ha presentado en la historia, con 20 206 casos reportados y 7 904 muertes hasta el 31 de diciembre de 2014, una tasa de letalidad del 39.12% y nueve países afectados. En el presente artículo hacemos una revisión del tema y un análisis del brote actual.
