Introducción

De acuerdo con la organización mundial de la salud, los últimos 25 años, la prevalencia de la obesidad se ha más que duplicado.
El 39% de la población adulta tiene sobrepeso y el 13% se considera obesa.
En algunos países no desarrollados (Oriente Medio) se encuentran incidencias entre 70-80% de sobrepeso, en México se calcula que la población con sobrepeso es del 40% y que esta cifra es mayor en la población infantil.
