RESUMEN

El síndrome de uña frágil es el segundo motivo de consulta más frecuente por enfermedades de la uña en dermatología. Se caracteriza por onicorrexis, onicosquisis y ruptura de la lámina ungular como consecuencia de enfermedades sistémicas o dermatológicas, de deficiencias nutricionales, factores ambientales y asociados a la ocupación que puedan afectar la producción o el daño de las uñas ya queratinizadas. Este síndrome puede presentarse también de manera idiopática y aparte de sus resultados cosméticos desagradables, tiene un impacto psicosocial, pues la sintomatología afecta las actividades de la vida cotidiana. El tratamiento no es fácil, debe identificarse la causa desencadenante y aplicar medidas de control ambiental. Actualmente hay en el mercado una gran variedad de endurecedores y pueden administrarse suplementos vitamínicos como la biotina, oligoelementos y aminoácidos.
