RESUMEN

Se menciona la importancia del sentido del olfato para la calidad de vida del ser humano, lo cual contrasta con la alta frecuencia de sus trastornos y con la poca o nula consideración que se le da por parte de la población en general y de la comunidad médica. Así como sus factores etiológicos y las dificultades de su evaluación a nivel individual, las cuales son mucho mayores para su evaluación epidemiológica. También se indica la importancia del impacto de las disosmias en las actividades de la vida diaria y la falta de publicaciones acerca de este tema en nuestro país, la necesidad de investigación y docencia al respecto y los aspectos preventivos de esta patología. Se propone un planteamiento de solución a esta problemática para nuestro país: el iniciar la Campaña de salud pública “NO TE OLVIDES DE TU OLFATO.”
