Lesiones por virus del papiloma humano en pacientes urológicos

RESUMEN

El virus del papiloma humano es una de las principales enfermedades de transmisión sexual en todo el mundo y es el agente causal de las verrugas anogenitales. El virus es altamente contagioso, tiene predilección por los queratinocitos de la piel y la vía de entrada suelen ser las áreas expuestas por microtraumatismos o abrasiones. De acuerdo con el sexo, los hombres que tienen relaciones sexuales con hombres y los pacientes inmunodeprimidos son los más propensos a la infección por el virus del papiloma humano. El diagnóstico de las lesiones suele establecerse por hallazgos clínicos y hasta la fecha no existe un consenso de tratamiento específico en la población; sin embargo, se cuenta con diversas opciones, cuyas indicaciones dependen de la experiencia del médico, preferencia del paciente, y disponibilidad de los fármacos, entre otros.
