ANTECEDENTES

La transfusión en pediatría es uno de los procedimientos más comunes en la atención hospitalaria, es relativamente común en neonatos pretérmino, en pacientes con trastornos hemato-oncológicos, y se ha reportado que hasta 5% de los pacientes hospitalizados en las unidades de cuidados intensivos reciben al menos una transfusión durante su hospitalización.
Un efecto adverso de la transfusión se define como cualquier reacción indeseable que ocurre al aplicar un producto sanguíneo. Los mismos pueden clasificarse de acuerdo con el mecanismo implicado en: inmunológico y no inmunológico, o con el tiempo de inicio en: inmediato o agudo cuando ocurre en las primeras 24 horas de la transfusión y tardío cuando sobreviene posterior a este periodo. En este trabajo abordaremos los efectos adversos de tipo inmediato o agudo.
