La hipertensión arterial y sus consecuencias cerebrales

RESUMEN

La hipertensión arterial es el principal factor de riesgo de la enfermedad isquémica del corazón y del cerebro. Es el principal factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de hemorragia cerebral. Su severidad y cronicidad ocasiona daño aterotrombótico en arterias condicionando la lipohialinosis y la consecuente formación de lesiones isquémicas cerebrales o daño cerebral difuso. El descontrol agudo ocasiona la encefalopatía hipertensiva. Todas las consecuencias de la hipertensión arterial en el cerebro son graves, causa de muerte y de severa discapacidad.
