Diarrea del viajero (DV)

RESUMEN

La Diarrea del Viajero (DV) continúa siendo un problema de salud; los principales factores de riesgo son el destino, el tipo de viaje, la duración, la edad, entre otros factores. Se adquiere por el consumo de alimentos y bebidas contaminadas por distintos patógenos que causan diarrea. El principal agente es Escherichia coli enterotoxigénica (ECET); aun cuando la mayoría de los cuadros son autolimitados, en lactantes y preescolares puede manifestarse con un estado grave y prolongado. El uso de antibióticos tiene indicaciones precisas, de igual forma el tratamiento profiláctico. En el presente artículo, se revisan conceptos básicos y se hace hincapié en la importancia de las medidas preventivas y el manejo adecuado de los alimentos para evitar esta patología.
