ABSTRACT

Background: Fibrous dysplasia is a benign, sporadic, slow-progressive disease of bone characterized by bone replacement by immature bone with abnormal growth. Craniofacial involvement is seen in 10% of cases. The occurrence in the middle turbinate is extremely rare, commonly affecting adolescents and young adults. Many of the asymptomatic lesions are found incidentally.
Clinical case: A 12-year-old female patient diagnosed with monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the middle turbinate successfully treated with a total endonasal endoscopic approach.
Conclusions: Fibrous dysplasia rarely affects the middle turbinate, but it should be considered differential diagnosis in obstructive lesions dependent on the middle turbinate in childhood.
