ABSTRACT

Objective: To report a case of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) associated to HELLP syndrome.
Design: Case report.
Setting: ICU of a tertiary care of obstetrical and gynecological hospital, Mexico City.
Patient: A 30-yrs-old pregnant patient with HELLP syndrome.
Interventions: Cesarean operation, mechanical ventilation support (with PEEP), pulmonary arterial catheter insertion.
Measurements and main results: Patient develops severe hypertension, proteinuria, increase of liver enzymes and ARDS (PaO2/FIO2, 55). She was discharged at 22th ICU stay without pulmonary sequelae.
Conclusion: A complication of HELLP syndrome may be ARDS.
