ABSTRACT

Introduction: Patient safety is paramount for the quality of medical care and therefore, for organizations to know what the level of culture of patient safety within them is. For this purpose, we use the "Patient Safety Questionnaire in Hospitals", from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality of the United States. Material and methods: It is an observational, cross-sectional, descriptive, and open study, through individual and group personal application of the questionnaire on patient safety. The data processing was done in Excel, running the Cronbach's Alpha statistical test for reliability of response, and validating the survey, the analysis of the 12 dimensions that constitute the survey are the basis of the report of results; sociodemographic and professional data were analyzed, with emphasis on two groups: medical and non-medical. Results: The dimensions with greater confidence: Frequency of reporting of events, expectations and actions of management, supervision, and feedback; and communication about errors, with values 0.874, 0.837, and 0.752 respectively; and with lower confidence: Sufficiency of personnel, general perception of security and non-punitive response to errors, with 0.199, 0.335, and 0.466, respectively. The level of patient safety perception of the hospital was good. Conclusions: It gives senior management of the hospital diagnosis and a tool that allows you to establish improvement plans giving priority dimensions perceived as deficient.
