Key words:

melanonychia, subungueal Bowen’s disease, squamous cell carcinoma in situ.

ABSTRACT

Diagnosis of subungueal tumors is a challenge given the multiple clinical variants that can occur. Bowen’s disease or also called in situ squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the nail unit. Longitudinal melanonychia is a common manifestation of melanocytic lesions, however there are multiple non-melanocytic causes described. The case of a 42-year-old male patient with a subungueal melanocytic lesion compatible with Bowen’s disease is presented.
