ABSTRACT

Genetic health promotion-prevention from the perspective of local-community development, its requirements and practices require greater scientific dissemination. The objective of this work was to value how promotion-prevention with a local-community approach in genetic health is addressed in Cuban publications. The methodology was based on the integrated analysis of the concepts: promotion-prevention in genetic health and local-community development, expressed in a set of indicators distributed by each of these concepts. Theoretical methods of investigation were used: the synthetic analytic, the transition from the abstract to the concrete, the inductive-deductive and the historical-logical. At the empirical level, the analysis of documents was performed. The technique of content analysis was made. We analyzed 225 articles of the Cuban Journal of Community Genetics published in the period 2007-2016 and the Manual of Standards and Procedures for Medical Genetics Services in Cuba. The analysis of the articles and the manual, allowed to know that the approach of the promotion-prevention of the genetic health with a local-community approach is insufficient, so a set of recommendations were offered. The conclusions refer to the need for greater articulation between the preventive and promotional components and of these with community work, as well as to expand its scientific dissemination.
