Oligoclonal gammapathy in children with HIV infection

ABSTRACT

The oligoclonal component in cellulose acetate in serum of children whose mothers had serology HIV+, observing its constant appearance in such serums, is studied here. In order to characterize the patent more precisely and to describe the characteristics of the oligoclonal component in the usage of the different methods, a sample of these serums is studied in agarose supports, in high resolution agarose and in immunofixed substances in agarose. Proteingrams of 12 serums corresponding to children born of HIV+ mothers were evaluated (one, with serologic negativization and 11, with HIV infection). The patent is observed in different supports. From the obtained results, we conclude that the patent of oligoclonity is different from the ones of mono and policlonity, whatever it is the technique and support used. By immunofixed substances we can confirm that the patent of oligoclonity depends on the activation of more than one clone of immunocompetent cells, if it is not expressed as a policlonal band. All the HIV+ serums have an oligoclonal character, but the patents differ among the different serums in condensation, amount of bands, and amplitude of them.
