Scientific production of the Cuban Journal of Intensive Medicine and Emergencies from 2015 to 2019

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Evaluating the scientific production of a journal allows to know its growth and development indicators, useful for drawing strategies.
Objective: To characterize the scientific production of the Cuban Journal of Intensive Medicine and Emergencies from 2015 to 2019.
Methods: A bibliometric study was carried out with the articles published in the Cuban Journal of Intensive Medicine and Emergencies from January 2015 to December 2019. Out of the 202 articles studied, we analyzed their typology, more productive authors, institutions and countries, as well as the Price index.
Results: It was found that 50% of the papers were original. Six hundred fifty-four authors published, an average of 3.24 authors per article. 89.91% was detected to be Cuban and 34.02% belonged to institutions in Havana. 10.55% of the authors were affiliated with Iván Portuondo General Teaching Hospital in Artemisa. Descriptive original articles predominated (71.29%) and 5.45% were written in English. Three thousand four references were used, representing an average of 14.87 references per article. The highest Price indices were reported in letters to the editor/editor (0.66) and review articles (0.64), as well as in 2019 (0.67). The number of articles published decreased in 2017-2019 period.
Conclusions: The presence of foreign authors and greater update of the articles were verified. The necessity of increasing the number of originals, the non-descriptive research, and the presence of more articles in other languages, in addition to Spanish is established.
