ABSTRACT

Introduction: Knee osteoarthrosis limits activities of daily living, decreases quality of life and is associated with depression and anxiety. Knowing the factors correlated with functionality will guide your medical care. Objective: To determine the isokinetic parameters correlated with the functionality of patients with osteoarthritis. Material and methods: An observational, analytical and cross-sectional study was carried out. Recruiting patients with a diagnosis of grade II-IV osteoarthrosis, the WOMAC questionnaire and visual analog scale were applied, isokinetic dynamometry of knee flexors and extensors was performed at 60, 180 and 240o/s. Results: 43 patients were obtained, predominantly women (79.1%), with a mean age of 63.25 ± 7.68 years, BMI of 30.72 ± 4.18. Correlations (p < 0.05) of WOMAC were found with pain (0.35) and work adjusted to the body weight of the left flexor muscles (-0.33). A linear relationship between pain and work adjusted to the body weight of the flexor muscles with the WOMAC scale was found. Conclusion: The present study was able to determine the correlations between some isokinetic values with pain, stiffness and functionality, which will allow to monitor these parameters in routine clinical practice, and thus improve the treatment of the program.
